Toussaint the Liberator, born in Kokomo, Indiana, is a dynamic soul roots singer with a powerful voice and a versatile musical style that spans blues, reggae, soul, and gospel. He began his musical journey in church, the son of a Baptist preacher and a gospel singer, and later moved to Boston in 2001, where he became a significant figure in the local music scene.
In 2006, Toussaint joined the band Soulive as their lead singer and penned all the lyrics for their album "No Place Like Soul," released on the Stax label. He has toured with renowned artists such as Isaac Hayes, the Rolling Stones, and John Legend.
Toussaint's solo work includes the 2010 album "Black Gold," which blends soul, roots reggae, and other genres, showcasing his commitment to both music and activism. His projects often carry messages of social justice and environmental awareness, reflecting his deep connection to his cultural heritage and personal experiences.
